50+ Workshops·2000+ Trained
WEsearch Lab, a design computation consultancy founded in 2015 by architect Joy Mondal. Our in-house processes have been used to deliver projects of national importance, including the New Parliament of India, Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi. Joy Mondal teaches the workshop.
Consultancy is our core work, and teaching is how we share what that work has already proven. Every method in this workshop was developed and refined on live facade projects before it reached a classroom. We run only three to four cohorts a year, so that teaching never takes time away from our projects and every cohort is taught by a practitioner.
This is a design-to-build workshop, not a software tutorial. You learn only the Rhino and Grasshopper you need for facade design, then apply five facade systems that cover about 90% of Indian facade briefs. The last module shows how a parametric model becomes set-out drawings and fabrication data, which is where most courses stop short.
Joy Mondal personally teaches every live session and the Post-Workshop Review. Joy is an architect licensed by the Council of Architecture, visiting faculty at SPA Delhi and CEPT University, and a scientific reviewer for eCAADe and CAADRIA. Joy has taught more than 50 workshops across six continents, including at the AA (London), the University of Southern California, the University of Sydney, IIT Kharagpur and SPA Delhi.
It means facades designed for how India actually builds. Most Indian buildings are orthogonal boxes, so every module starts from box massing and adds a facade that is distinctive yet straightforward to construct. The aim is a building a client will approve and a contractor can build, not a form that stays on screen.
No. Day 1 covers the Rhino essentials needed for facade design, and Day 2 introduces Grasshopper from its interface upwards. Our core proprietary workflow is simple enough that first-year students at SPA Delhi regularly learn it in two hours with no Grasshopper experience.
Practising architects, recent graduates and architecture students who want to design facades that stand out and can be built. Interior designers, facade consultants and engineers who work on building envelopes are equally welcome. Fees are tiered by career stage, so the workshop is priced fairly for each group.
Yes. The first weekend moves quickly through fundamentals, and the value for experienced users lies in our proprietary facade libraries and in Module 5, which turns a model into construction drawings and fabrication data.
The design logic of all five modules transfers to any context, though examples and construction notes are drawn from Indian practice. Sessions run from 6:00 to 10:00 pm IST, so please check the time in your zone before registering. If you are paying from outside India, email info@wesearchlab.com and we will arrange payment with you.
Yes. Email info@wesearchlab.com with the subject “Multiple Registrations” and include each participant’s name, email and fee category. We will reply with the options available.
You will be able to take a conventional box building and design a parametric facade for it, using any of five systems. You will also know how to extract data from that model for set-out drawings and fabrication. You leave with a finished facade project, reviewed by Joy, for your portfolio.
Each module teaches a different design logic that you can adapt to your own projects.
Yes, and this is the core of the workshop. Every module starts from construction logic tested on our consultancy projects, and Module 5 is dedicated to turning a model into set-out drawings and fabrication-ready data. We deliberately avoid free-form shapes that cannot be built within Indian budgets and site conditions.
They are Grasshopper tools that WEsearch Lab has built and refined over ten years of practice to generate facades. They package complex logic into drag-and-drop modules, so you spend your time on design decisions rather than on scripting. Every participant receives them as part of the workshop.
Yes. You are free to use them in your own design work, including client projects. They may not be resold.
Yes. Each live session ends with a dedicated 30-minute Q&A, and the Post-Workshop Review, held two weeks later, is a live session to review and finalise your portfolio project.
It is taught live online across two weekends: four 4-hour sessions on Saturday and Sunday, 6:00 to 10:00 pm IST, followed by a live Post-Workshop Review two weeks later. Sessions run on Zoom or Google Meet, and we email you the joining link before Day 1. See the schedule for dates.
Each session runs for four hours, from 6:00 to 10:00 pm IST, including a dedicated 30-minute live Q&A at the end. With the 4-hour Post-Workshop Review, that is 20 hours of live teaching.
You will receive the recording and working files for every session. Bring any questions to the Q&A in the next live session, and we will resolve them there.
Yes. You join a participant WhatsApp group where you can post doubts and screenshots between sessions. Joy will answer there, and bigger questions are taken up in the next live Q&A.
Any standard laptop or desktop that runs Rhino comfortably, with a stable internet connection. A mouse is strongly advised, because Rhino and Grasshopper rely on the scroll wheel and right-click. A second screen is helpful for following along but not required.
No purchase is needed. Install the free 90-day trial of Rhino from rhino3d.com/download before Day 1; Grasshopper is included. We share the WEsearch Lab libraries with you two to three days before the workshop begins.
We recommend Windows. Rhino for Mac does include Grasshopper, but a Windows laptop or PC will give you the smoothest experience in the workshop.
The workshop is taught in English. Joy also speaks Hindi, so you are welcome to ask questions in Hindi.
Yes. Every participant who completes the workshop receives a digitally verifiable WEsearch Lab Certificate of Completion, signed by Joy Mondal, recognising your facade project and computational design skills. To complete the workshop, share a screenshot of your facade output with us. The certificate states your enrolment category, and you can add it to LinkedIn, your portfolio and your CV.
Yes, for life. We share a download link for the HD recordings, working files and proprietary script libraries, so you can save them and keep them permanently.
Two weeks after the final session, we meet live to review and finalise your portfolio project. It is also the time to resolve any technical issues you met while practising on your own.
We are a design practice, not a placement agency, so we do not offer placement guarantees. Internship applications to WEsearch Lab are assessed on merit, and taking the workshop does not by itself improve your chances. What the workshop gives you is a portfolio-ready facade project, a verifiable certificate and a working method that leading practices value.
Yes. Design computation consultancy is our core work, and we bring AI and parametric design into the projects of architects and urban designers. Write to Joy at joy@wesearchlab.com with a short project brief.
Fees depend on your career stage: Senior Pro, Young Pro or Student. Registering in the Early Bird period saves up to 40%. See Participation Fees for current prices.
Choose Senior Pro if you graduated in 2019 or earlier, Young Pro if you graduated in 2020 or later, or Student if you are currently in a bachelor’s programme. Master’s students register as Young Pro. Your enrolment category is stated on your certificate, and we may ask for proof of eligibility where needed.
All four live sessions, the Post-Workshop Review, the proprietary script libraries, the Certificate of Completion, and lifetime access to the recordings and files.
Attend the first weekend. If you do not find the workshop valuable, email info@wesearchlab.com before Day 3 begins and we will refund your entire fee. Refunds reach your original payment method within 7 to 10 working days. The full policy is in our Terms and Conditions.
Payments are processed securely through Razorpay. You can pay by UPI, debit or credit card, net banking or wallet.
Transfers are considered case by case. Email info@wesearchlab.com explaining your circumstances, and we will let you know what is possible.
